Floods hit Ayeyawaddy: Rakhine Households moved, schools closed

Than Pat Kwin Village in Thit Yaung Village-tract of Nga Yoke Kaung Township was flooded due to heavy rainfall, torrential rain and high tide on August 17. The flooding in Pathein District of Ayeyawaddy Region forced 80 households to move to nearby monasteries to take shelter. Governmental departments and social organizations provided food to the flood-affected at the monasteries.

On the same day, heavy rain and strong winds hit Kyaukphyu Township of Rakhine State – there, basic education schools were temporarily closed. Clean-up efforts were made by District Administration Department and members of the Red Cross Society at the Basic Education Middle School No. 4 and the Basic Education Primary schools in the Township.
