A flood simulation drill was conducted in the compound of the monastery in Thinbawseik Village, Magway Township, in the morning on July 10. The event was attended by Chief Minister of the Magway Region Government and Chairman of the Region's Natural Disaster Management Committee U Tint Lwin.
In his opening remarks, the Chief Minister recalled that, in October 2011, severe flash floods caused by intense rainfall in Pakokku, Pauk, Myaing, and Seikphyu Townships resulted in the deaths of 161 people. Additionally, in July 2024, flooding displaced more than 50,000 people across 14 townships in the Region.
He emphasized the importance of proactive disaster prevention measures, especially public awareness campaigns and simulation drills related to the natural disasters. He stated that practical, collaborative exercises like this are vital because, in the event of a real emergency, such training will enable response teams to clearly understand their roles and responsibilities and carry out their tasks more effectively and efficiently.
The drill included demonstrations of emergency response plans and search-and-rescue operations that would be carried out during a natural disaster. The Chief Minister and officials observed the simulation and encouraged participants. It was reported that refreshments, snacks, and clean drinking water were also distributed to the local villagers.
