Floats parade at festival in Toyama Prefecture, Japan

A centuries-old festival featuring 13 lavishly decorated floats took place in the central Japanese prefecture of Toyama, along the Sea of Japan. The Shinminato Hikiyama Festival was held every October 1 and 2 in Imizu City.

It dates back to the Edo Period, and is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. On Wednesday, 13 communities in the city’s Shinminato district paraded their floats, which are roughly 8 meters tall.Crowds who gathered along the route despite the rainy weather marveled at the ornamental floats and took photos.
