Fishery Industry: Efforts for sustainability of fishery industry

A meeting on fishery industry was held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

Deputy Minister Dr Aung Gyi attended the meeting and stressed the importance of systematic fishing business for sustainability of fishery industry. The meeting discussed the designating of non-fishing season and non-fishing zones for 2024-2025 fishing season and matters of marine industry.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, fishery production in Myanmar is the highest among the Least Developed Countries. The survey by the Research Vessel from Norway in 2013, 2015 and 2018 showed the 80% decline of marine commercial fish stocks, along with 60% drop in underwater fish species.
