Yangon Region Fisheries Department organized a fingerling releasing ceremony on 29th September.
A total of 400,000 fingerlings were released into Twantay Canal during the ceremony.
The fingerlings to be released into the natural rivers, dams and reservoirs were bred at three hatchery camps in the region.
Deputy Regional Officer, Yangon Region Fisheries Department, Tint Lwin said "A total of 2.6 million fingerlings are targeted to release during the 2022-2023 fiscal year. The distribution of these fingerlings has been made from Hlawgar, LayDauntKan and Twantay Fisheries Camps. The fingerlings have to keep at the camp for about 2 months before releasing into the natural rivers."
It is learnt that the fingerlings released into the natural rivers have less amount of surviving than the ones released into the dams and reservoirs.
In-charge, Twantay Fisheries Camp, Ye Win Thaung said "It took about 2 months to reach fingerlings into two inches size. We mainly feed the groundnut cake and bran. We will continue to hatch the native species fish for long term sustainability of the fisheries resources."
The fisheries camps also produce pedigree fish species by natural and injection methods and assist Good Aquature Practice techniques for good fish farming practices.
