Fisheries Products: Thaninthayi region is major fisheries exporter

In producing and exporting fisheries products, Thaninthayi region outnumbers other regions in Myanmar. In the Thaninthayi region, fishing industry is running with over 10,000 of fishing vessels and the implementations are underway for the safety of fishing vessels inshore as well as offshore.

Region Head Officer, Fisheries Department (Taninthayi Region), Aung Nyi Toe said "There are over 1,400 offshore fishing vessels and around 9,000 inshore ones in Thaninthayi region. Fisheries products are mainly for local consumers but the excessive products are exported according to the demand of the market. Fisheries Department and other related departments conduct the training annually in close season and area to the fishermen for safety of fishing at sea. This year close season is started from April to June. "

Fisheries products from Thaninthayi region are exported to abroad through Htee Khee, Maw Taung and Kawthaung-Ranong boarder gates. There are over 20 fisheries export companies in Thaninthayi region.
