


Regarding to the fisheries industry, fish breeding businesses are widely operated in Ayeyawady Region for sufficient supply of local demand under the instruction of the regional government.
In Yay Kyi Township, there are 70 ponds and lakes situated in the area, and among them, 464.86 acres are engaging in fish breeding business.
The regional government is carrying out for providing fingerlings, needed for those fish breeding ponds.
Township Head Officer, Myo Lwin, Department of Fisheries (Yaykyi) said "Our department is providing fingerlings to put into the ponds in Yaykyi Township for sufficient supply of fish to local community. The department bids tender for local fish breeders according to the 2018 Ayayawady Fresh Water Fisheries Law, aiming to create more job opportunities for locals and for boosting production of fish. The fish from Ayeyawaddy region mainly transport to Yangon."
At present, adding fingerlings of fish species including Rohu, striped cat fish and fresh water pomfret to the ponds are underway at the Yaykyi township.
Fish Breeder, Bo Bo Win, Yaykyi Township said "I especially breed rohu. There are also other fish species including striped cat fish, mrigal, pomfret. About 130,000 to 150,000 fish are produced in 60 acres breeding area. I’ll try to produce more fish for sufficient supply of local."
In Yaykyi Township, over 800,000 viss of fish are produced annually from the breeding ponds as well as natural lakes. The produced amounts are sufficient for local consumption, and can also be able to distribute to other regions.
