Fisheries Industry: Discussion for establishing fisheries research

A work coordination meeting on conducting research processes under the MOU on establishing fisheries research, funded by collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and Thaninthayi Region Fisheries Federation took place at Myeik Township on Friday.

Myanmar is the third country among 123 countries which possess mangrove forests with over 300,000 acres of them situated in Myeik District. Likewise, Thaninthayi Region exports 30% of fisheries products of Myanmar. Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Gyi stressed the need to promote research works for the sustainable development of these infrastructures in the region.

The attendees were urged for systematic fish farming and to expand producing process for the development of fisheries industry. During the meeting, upgrading of Kalwin Camp, preservation of rare fish species and practical research works for producing value-added fisheries products were also discussed.
