First Monkeypox death in Brazil and the region

Brazil's Health Ministry confirmed the South American nation's first death related to Monkeypox. In a press conference, the Ministry of Health Executive Secretary said the victim was a man living in the state of Minas Gerais who had low immunity and comorbidities.

The cause of death provided was septic shock, aggravated by Monkeypox. It is a patient with other relevant comorbidities and a history of chemotherapy treatment, and there was an indication that the reason of death was related to the virus. He added that the officials are investigating the prevalence of these comorbidities to this end. Brazil has so far registered 1,066 cases of monkeypox in 16 states, mostly in São Paulo.
