Fireworks contest opens in Berlin after COVID gap

The Pyronale Fireworks World Championship opened Friday in Berlin at the city's Olympic Stadium, after a two-year gap due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Crowds gathered to watch the first three teams light up the Berlin sky to the sound of classical music. Each team is allowed 15 minutes to display their pyrotechnic skills in the two-day contest.

The judges are the attending public who can text in their favourite display after each night.
