The first major forest fire of the year in Spain, which has already burned 9,800 acres entered its fourth day on Sunday with local authorities fearing the situation will worsen due to adverse weather conditions. The fire began mid-March and with persisting near-summer temperatures and the country's permanent drought are worsening the situation.

Efforts to extinguish the fire have been ongoing, including drone reconnaissance flights to identify the 40-kilometer perimeter. The winds and dry conditions are making it difficult for firefighters to control the blaze. In eastern Spain's Castellón and Teruel provinces, the fire has forced the evacuation of 1,500 people, many of them elderly.
