South Korea is currently battling severe wildfires that have resulted in multiple fatalities and widespread evacuations. The most significant blaze ignited on March 21, in Sancheong County, South Gyeongsang province.

By March 22, the fire had consumed over 1,200 acres and remained only 35% contained due to challenging mountainous terrain and strong winds. Helicopters release water over a deadly wildfire in the southeast of South Korea. The blaze has so far killed at least three firefighters and a public servant, prompting the government to declare a state of emergency.
