A fire in a southwestern Serbian town has killed four children and injured their parents, police said on Sunday. The fire broke out around 7a.m. in one of the flats in a residential building in Novi Pazar, about 200 kilometers southwest of Belgrade.
Police said that firefighters arrived at the scene within minutes after receiving a call but that the flat was already engulfed in fire. Firefighters found the children in one of the rooms, who presumably died of carbon-monoxide poisoning, said a statement. The parents were in the other room and have been taken to hospital, police said. It was not immediately clear what caused the fire.
