Fire leaves over 600 homeless in Russia

At least one person was killed and more than 600 others were left homeless after fires in Russia’s Sverdlovsk region. The blazes on Tuesday and Wednesday affected six settlements in the region.More than 110 properties were impacted by fires in the village of Sosva.

Blazes there had spread to an area of more than 9,000 square metres.Two-hundred people were evacuated from a penal colony located nearby that also caught fire.Officials were investigating whether an initial fire had broken out at a sawmill.
