A fire along an interstate highway in Oakland, California, spread to several nearby structures. The East Bay Times reports that the fire broke out Friday afternoon on an embankment near the eastbound lanes of I-580. The area has burned before.

In October 2020, a grass fire near I-580 spread dangerously close to the Chevron station and nearby apartments. No buildings were damaged then. Officials say they worked to gain control of the fire, but at least four homes have been impacted by the fire. One firefighter was treated for heat-related injuries, an Oakland Fire Department spokesperson said.
