Farmers in Aberdeenshire lined up tractors by the road as a sign of respect, as Queen Elizabeth II’s flag-draped coffin was driven slowly through the Scottish countryside Sunday.

Mourners packed city streets and highway bridges to take part in a historic goodbye to the monarch who had reigned for 70 years, as the coffin was driven from her beloved Balmoral Castle to the Scottish capital of Edinburgh. Sunday’s solemn drive came as the queen’s eldest son was formally proclaimed the new monarch - King Charles III - in the rest of the nations of the United Kingdom: Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
