Family of Peru's Kuczynski condemn prison term

The daughter of former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski told media on Sunday that a three-year preventative prison term for the former of head of state was a "death sentence" for her father. His daughter, Alex Kuczynski, spoke of her father's frail health and age as being factors that prevented him from serving out his prison term.

A Peruvian judge sentenced former president Kuczynski to up to three years in jail while prosecutors prepare corruption charges against him for allegedly taking bribes from Brazilian construction company Odebrecht. As president, Kuczynski initially denied having any link to Odebrecht. But he eventually acknowledged his consulting company advised Odebrecht on financing for projects that it had won while he was a cabinet minister in the government of former President Alejandro Toledo.a
