Famed player of ancient Malian instrument welcomes UNESCO recognition

The balafon is one of the Mali’s oldest musical instruments and now on the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list. It was made by artisans who have passed on their skills from one generation to the next. 

And it is deeply rooted in the musical traditions of the Sahel nation's ethnic group communities. This UNESCO acknowledgment not only honors Mali's musical traditions but also reinforces the global significance of artists in advocating for cultural preservation and social change.
