




The World Tourism Organization, which is comprised of 159 countries, has designated 27th September as the "World Tourism Day" every year. An extempore talks commemorating the celebration was held at the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism on Monday.
At the event, Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Thet Thet Khine said that a commemorative ceremony led by the WTO is usually held in a member country every year and for this year, Saudi Arabia will organize as a host in Riyadh city.
Myanmar has organized the celebrations since 2012 and it has been 12 times. This year theme is “Tourism & Green Investments”, urging to carry out better green investments for human beings, the earth and prosperity. The essay, extempore talks, article and photo contests are being organized to commemorate 2023 World Tourism Day.
It is learnt that students from Mandalar University and the National Management Education Degree College (Yangon) and staff from the Ministry would participate in the extempore talks and the contestants are urged to participate in the contest in their respective topics with earnest efforts as these are recommendations supporting for development of tourism industry in post COVID.
Later, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the event explained about rules and regulations and marking programs.
The contestants participated with 5 topics such as “Promoting tourism industry and green investments”, “Tourism and Human Resource Development”, “Tourism and future digital technology development”, “Environmental conservation and sustainable development of tourism” and “Sustainability of responsible tourism”. Then, the Director General of the Ministry reviewed the competition.
