Export Sector: Soft-shell crab farming and export processes

The soft-shell crabs farming has operating by 5 companies in Kyauktan Township of Thanlyin district in Yangon Region.

The soft-shell crabs are not a separate species. Frozen by mat crabs during their shell period and transformed into soft-shell crabs.

Win Myo Linn, Manager, Sunflower Soft-shell Crab Farming said " There are a lot of crab species. The mat crabs are transformed into soft-shell crabs. They can be damaged when they can’t regulate the water quality and temperature they need. For the water quality and temperature changes, we request to help to the relevant Ministries to prevent damage."

The frozen soft-shell crabs has been exported to foreign markets and also selling in local markets.

Tint Lwin, Deputy Officer, Department of Fisheries said " The soft-shell crabs are selling in both local and foreign markets. For the export sector, there are divided raw and frozen crabs. We need more local reregisters factories and employees for the frozen export process. Currently, we have been carried out to produce fish amino acids and exporting the variety of fishes either raw or frozen to the foreign countries as their demand rate."

Around 35 tons of Myanmar soft-shell crabs are mainly exported to European countries and followed by Australia, America and England every year.
