Residents in Vietnam’s central coastal city of Vinh have been evacuated to a local sports stadium as Typhoon Kajiki struck the region on Monday, bringing winds of up to 140 km/h.

Authorities organized the relocation after warnings were issued over loudspeakers, urging people in vulnerable housing to seek shelter. Local police and army units assisted in moving residents to safety and provided food and water supplies at the shelter.

Many evacuees left behind damaged or fragile homes, including older apartment blocks deemed unsafe during the storm. Families brought only essential items, while workers expressed concern about the financial strain of potential property damage. The typhoon is expected to continue lashing Vietnam’s central belt, heightening risks of flooding and structural damage.
