Evacuation drill held due to Ecuador’s Cotopaxi volcano

Several instances of ash emitting from the Cotopaxi volcano since October has prompted local residents in Ticatilin, Ecuador to hold an evacuation drill on Sunday.

As the ear-piercing sounds of the alarms went off, men, women, and children moved by foot to a refuge center.During Sunday’s drill, the elderly were assisted by others as they made their way through a dirt path in a wooded area to arrive at a building set up as a refuge. Cotopaxi, the second-highest peak in Ecuador, is currently among the most active volcanoes in the country and it began showing renewed activity in October.
