EU's Sakharov Prize awarded to Alexei Navalny

The daughter of imprisoned Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny received the European Union's top human rights prize on her father's behalf on Wednesday.

Navalny, who narrowly survived a poisoning that he blames on the Kremlin, was awarded the Sakharov Prize in October, in a clear swipe at Russia President Vladimir Putin. Navalny fell ill from a nerve agent poisoning last year and recovered in Germany. and then he was promptly arrested upon his return to Moscow and later imprisoned. Daria Navalnaya, a 21-year-old student, displayed a framed picture of Navalny during her speech at the European Parliament.
