The European Union has announced countermeasures it plans to take against US tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from the EU.
The EU made the announcement on Wednesday after the administration of US President Donald Trump imposed 25-percent tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports from that day. The EU plans to impose counter tariffs in two stages. It will first reinstate tariffs on US motorbikes, bourbon and other items on April 1.
The tariffs were imposed on those products during Trump's first term. New tariffs will then be introduced on agricultural, plastic and other products by April 13. The EU estimates the counter tariffs will apply to products worth up to 26 billion euros, or about 28 billion dollars.
