European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson said Monday that the European Union had received 3.8 million refugees from Ukraine. Speaking in Brussels, she announced a new system to register refugees on a EU-wide level, as well as tools to improve the distribution of Ukrainians across member states.

Ylva Johansson, European Commissioner for Home Affairs said “When it comes to the resident investment schemes where you get a residence permit if you invest money - we are now in the recommendation calling on member states to urgently refuse or deny a renewal of this for all Russian and Belarusian citizens that in any way can be linked to be part or supportive of the war in Ukraine."

EU member states were now phasing out golden passport schemes that allow wealthy people to buy their way into the bloc's citizenship.
