EU to invest €500 million to attract researchers

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced a proposed €500 million funding package for 2025–2027 aimed at strengthening Europe’s position as a global research hub. The announcement was made at the “Choose Europe for Science” conference held in Paris.

Ursula von der Leyen, President, European Commission said "Science is an investment and we need to offer the right incentives. This is why I can announce that we will put forward a new 500 million euro package for 2025 to 2027 to make Europe a magnet for researchers. “

The funding will support top researchers through new initiatives, including a proposed seven-year super grant under the European Research Council. The package also includes extended financial support for international scientists relocating to Europe. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance long-term research capacity and innovation across the European Union.
