EU chief: gas pipeline game changer for EU energy security

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other EU leaders on Saturday attended the official launch of a new pipeline that will supply natural gas from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria. Von der Leyen called the 182-kilometer  pipeline a "game changer" for European energy security.

The pipeline is designed to run from the northeastern Greek city of Komotini to Stara Zagora in central Bulgaria. It is expected to start with an initial capacity of 3 billion cubic meters of gas a year, with the prospect of future expansion to 5 billion cubic meters.
