Eradicating Online Fraud: Deportation of illegal immigrants in border area

Efforts are being made to expose illegal foreign nationals engaged in online gambling, online fraud and unlawful acts at the border areas and to deport them to their respective countries in line with the existing laws and procedures.

On 12th March, a total of 299 foreign nationals who entered Myanmar illegally via Thailand and neighbouring countries were detained as they involved in online gambling and online fraud at Myawaddy-Mae Htaw Tha Lay  area.

Necessary resumes and records are being compiled to deport the detainees to their respective countries promptly. Kayin State Security and Border Affairs Minister Colonel Min Thu Kyaw and officials inspected the data compiling and collecting process and coordinated necessities.

From 30th January to 12th March 2025, a total of 5,745 illegal foreign nationals were detained and 2,763 of them were already deported to their respective countries via Thailand in line with the existing laws and procedures. 

The rest of the illegal foreign nationals under detention are in good care and ready to be deported. The governmnet will continue accelerating the investigations to eliminate illegal online fraud and gambling which have been on the rise in border areas in cooperation with the international organizations and neighbouring countries.
