An equestrian festival celebrates Libya's disappearing artisanal saddlery

The Traditional Equestrian Festival of Zliten, located about 160 kilometers east of Tripoli on the Libyan coast, serves as a crucial gathering for Libyan cultural identity, showcasing the skill of riders during fantasias and the craftsmanship of masters in traditional saddlery and accessories.

However, the craft of traditional Libyan saddlery is under threat: there are only very few master saddlers left in the entire country capable of continuing this ancient art.
