







Environmental Management and Climate Change Working Committee held its work coordination meeting at the Environmental Conservation Department in Nay Pyi Taw on 6th February.
Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Min Thu attended the meeting and delivered opening remarks. In his remarks, the Deputy Minister highlighted the threats against nation’s economic sector and socio-economic development which are raised by climate change and environmetal pollution. He also underscored the Myanmar’s efforts in tackling climage change in line with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Kyoto Annex and Paris Agreement, carbon emission reduction in line with the Nationally Determined Contributions-NDCs, arrangements to submit NDCs 2nd Update reports in 2025 and systematic E-Waste Management.
He also underlined Myanmar’s contribution in collaborative actions to control transboundary haze pollution in the ASEAN region, providing data on Fire Hotspots and haze with reference from the ASEAN Specialized Meteorological Center.
In controlling plastic pollution, arrangements are underway to complete the National Plastic Action Plan of Myanmar. Moreover, SOPs were already verified to manage plastic waste systematically in coastal region. The Deputy Minister also urged the committee members to fulfill their respective assigned duties in line with the existing rules and regulations.
Attendees reported on the significant outcomes of green school movement, efforts to issue environmental statistics article in line with the Framework for the Development of Environmental Statistics-FEDS) 2013 Tier- 1 and further work implementations to implement Joint Plan of Action-CLEAR Sky Strategy) 2024-2030 as well as further tasks to be implemented.
