Environmental Conservation: ECC held the 5th coordination meeting

The Chairman of the Environmental Conservation Committee, Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi, attended and delivered an opening speech at the fifth coordination meeting of the committee held at the meeting hall of the Environmental Conservation Department in Nay Pyi Taw on February 24.

Initially, Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi stated that Myanmar has been formulating and implementing action plans at the national level to mitigate and adapt to climate change. He emphasized the need to establish and implement long-term measures to reduce plastic pollution through the collaboration of relevant departments, organizations, and the public. He also mentioned ongoing cooperation with ASEAN countries to reduce transboundary haze pollution.

Furthermore, he urged relevant departments in Nay Pyi Taw, regions, and states to intensify efforts to reduce air pollution caused by wildfire smoke and other fires resulting from various causes. He encouraged everyone to work together to achieve sustainable environmental and socio-economic development.

Subsequently, the committee’s Vice-Chairman, Deputy Minister U Min Thu, presented a discussion, followed by the Secretary and responsible officials who provided detailed updates on the committee’s activities, the status of environmental management, climate change initiatives, and the progress of sub-committees addressing industrial, urban, and rural environmental management.

After that, attendees discussed in detail the implementation of the committee’s previous resolutions and future action plans by sector, reaching decisions based on the discussions.  Following this, the Committee Chairman Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi, delivered a closing speech and concluded the meeting, it’s learnt.
