The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation is implementing measures to optimize irrigation facilities for bolstering crop production. In Thazi Township, the ministry is currently undertaking repair works on feeder canals at Nyaung Yan Min-Hla Lake. On the 5th of February, Union Minister U Min Naung visited the project site to inspect the progress of the work.
Established by ancient Myanmar monarchs, the Nyaung Yan Min-Hla Lake boasts a history of over 900 years. Originally two adjacent lakes, a 5,200 ft long separation dam was constructed between them in 1997. These facilities serve to provide irrigated water to a catchment area benefiting 20 village-tracts in Thazi Township.
During the fiscal year 2022-2023, repair works were completed on the embankment, spillways with concrete paving, and silt dredging from the canals. In the current fiscal year of 2023-2024, repair efforts are focused on the feeder canals and intake buildings.
These enhancements aim to ensure a sufficient supply of irrigated water for monsoon and summer paddy cultivation, as well as other crops, across a catchment area exceeding 27,000 acres.
