




As part of the 2nd day of the 40th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and Associated Meetings, the 16th East Asia Summit Energy Ministers Meeting- EAS-EMM and the 19th ASEAN+3 Ministers on Energy Meeting (19th AMEM+3) were held via video conferencing on Friday.
Union Minister for Energy U Myo Myint Oo together with deputy minister U Thant Zan and officials participated in the meetings virtually. The meeting focused on energy security in ASEAN region, development of oil and natural gas technology and basic infrastructures, using clean energy and renewable energy, stability of energy market, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) Technical development, cooperation in hydrogen and ammonia energy technologies, plans to cooperate among ASEAN and China, Japan and Korea for regional energy sector development, polices and work programs.
At the meeting, the Union Minister discussed Myanmar’s endeavours for energy sector development, arrangement for generating of electricity from renewable resources such as small hydropower project, wind power and solar, adopting plans and policies for the effective use of energy, energy thrifty, increasing the use of renewable energy resources and reduction of carbon emission.
He also committed that Myanmar will cooperate actively with ASEAN member states, dialogue partner countries and International Energy Organizations for the carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technical development, hydrogen and ammonia energy technologies.
The Joint Ministerial Statement (JMS) of 16th EAS-EMM” and “The Joint Ministerial Statement (JMS) of 19th AMEM+3” were issued. The 41st ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and Associated Meetings will be hosted by Indonesia as the alternate chair in 2023.
