Energy Efficiency in Food Sector: Pilot Project launched with 2-day seminar

Launching ceremony for pilot project of energy efficiency in food sector, conducted by Lancang-Mekong cooperation special fund 2023, was held at Thingaha Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.

At the event, Union Minister for Industry Dr Charlie Than gave an opening speech, saying that the project is aiming to save the production cost and to promote the productivity in foods factories through the energy efficiency. So, it is necessary to follow the energy efficiency processes as priority one. 

Being the focal ministry to conduct the energy efficiency tasks in Myanmar, the Ministry of Industry drafted the National Level Energy Efficiency and Conservation Policy, as well as the Strategy and Road map in 2016 to accelerate momentum for work implementations. 

The aim of the policy is to reduce the energy consumption by 20% in 2023 based on the energy consumption data in 2012. He added that today’s Pilot projects for foods sector is related to the Industry sector, and the Ministry will select the potential factories for implementation of the project together with active entrepreneurs.

Then, Dr Zheng ZhiHong, Minister Counsellor of Chinese Embassy, clarified the projects implemented by Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund 2023 via video clip, and the Vice Chairperson of Coordination Unit of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation on current implementation and future plans. This was followed by discussions on pilot project for energy efficiency in food sector, work plans for project and current condition of energy efficiency in food sector. The event will be held for two days.
