Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako have visited the country's only aquarium that keeps sea otters. The Emperor and Empress arrived in Mie Prefecture to attend the National Convention for the Development of an Abundantly Productive Sea.

Ahead of the convention, the Imperial couple on Saturday visited Toba Aquarium in Toba City, also in Mie Prefecture, to see two sea otters. The couple were briefed on conservation efforts for endangered species including the ushimotsugo, a freshwater fish found only in reservoirs in Mie and some other parts of central Japan.
