Emergency Response Measures: Meeting to clarify undertakings of Disaster Management Centre

A meeting to clarify the work functions of the Disaster Management Centre-DMC was held at the DMC opened by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement on Thursday afternoon.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman (1) of the National Disaster Management Committee (NDMC) member of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Soe Htut said that regarding Cyclone Mocha (MOCHA), the cyclone track and the area where the storm is most likely to enter has been known according to the weather forecasts and emergency response measures must be carried out together.

DMC needs to prepare necessary things in the townships from Rakhine and Chin States where there are likely to be in the path of the storm and the moving measures need to be kept in a timely manner. It also needs to make plan for the least amount of damages and speedy recovery tasks.

Later, Vice Chairman (2) of the Committee Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine explained about emergency response preparedness measures, distribution of 10,000 tons of reserved rice and coordination with officials of respective region and state governments.

Officials of the Working Committee reported on current condition of Cyclone (MOCHA), direction of the storm, its intensity and the condition that the cyclone will enter, security measures in townships of Rakhine and Chin States where the cyclone may pass through, preparedness for emergency communication and rescue measures, completion of Cyclone Shelter and evacuation places, installation of walking talkies and satellite phones, international communication, sending mobile water purification machine to Rakhine State, dispatching emergency health rescue teams, arrangements for ambulance and hospital, delivery of medicines and water tablets and among others.

After that, member of the DMC Commander-in-Chief (Navy) representative reported on the conditions that may occur if the storm tide rises. The Union Minister for Home Affairs and the Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement then coordinated essentials on the report.
