Eliminating Child Labour: MoLIP and UNICEF held Online Meeting

Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe made a discussion online with UNICEF Myanmar’s Representative Ms June Kunugi on Friday.

The Union Minister discussed that at present, Myanmar is prioritizing for the elimination of child labour. Children who released by the Presidential pardon are taking care at the Social Welfare Schools temporarily instead of sending them directly to their homes due to the current situation of COVID-19 outbreak. To eliminate forced labour, a National Committee was found and is carrying out for amendment and drafting the Child Law. The Committee also coordinated with the concerned ministries to avoid overlapping reviewing of child law. They also held talks on possible unemployment problem in both formal and informal sectors and economic recovery plan with the help of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
