Eliminate violence against women: Donation ceremony to commemorate 16-day campaign

The donation ceremony to commemorate the 16-day campaign to eliminate violence against women was held at the office of the Department of Social Welfare in Mandalay Region on Wednesday.

Present at the ceremony were Chairperson of Mandalay Region Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association and Myanmar Women's Affairs Federation, members of Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation and officials from the training schools under the Department and children.

Myint Myint Than, Deputy Director, Department of Social Welfare, Mandalay Region, said " The donation ceremony is conducted by the collaboration of Mandalay Region Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association and Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation for the children and the girls from the training schools under the Department of Social Welfare. Personal goodsworth over 1.8 million kyats were donated to the children and the girls. Plans are underway to donate the children aged between 6 and 18 years from the School for the Deaf and the School for disabled children. We also conducted knowledge sharing session for the girls from training schools, heads of training schools under the department and staff from the relevant departments."

The period between November 25th and December 10th every year is designated as the 16-day campaign to eliminate violence against women and the campaigns to raise awareness for the elimination of gender-based violence and the knowledge sharing activities are being conducted.
