Bodhi Tahtaung Elephant Conservation Camp was opened on the 14th of July in Bodhi Tahtaung sacred place in Monywa of Sagaing Region.

The camp was built on eight acres of land in the Bodhi Tahtaung Pagoda sacred place and it offers pilgrims a chance to observe the nature of elephants.

Assistant General Manager, Monywa Timber Enterprise, Zaw Win Thein said “There are 7 elephants from 3 years old to 33 years old ones at this camp. The reason why we opened this Bodhi Tahtaung Elephant conservation camp in the Bodhi Tahtaung Scared Place is to give the pilgrims a chance to observe the nature of elephants. This is also about eco tourism sector promotion.”

Entrance fee to this Bodhi Tahtaung Elephant Conservation Camp is 1,000 kyats and an elephant ride will cost local visitor 5,000 kyats.

Resident, Myo Min Thein said “We are very glad that we now have a chance to observe the nature of elephants in person through this elephant conservation camp.”

There are a total of 3 elephant camps in Sagaing Region including this one. And plans are underway to open an elephant camp on Zalone Mountain in Bamauk Township next month.
