On Saturday, Union Minister for Electric Power U Nyan Tun visited the Paunglaung Hydropower Plant in Zeyathiri Township, where officials briefed him on various aspects of power generation, maintenance, and water management. They discussed the yearly inflow of water into the dam, its storage capacity, and the transmission of power through the National Grid.

The Union Minister emphasized the importance of operating the generators at full capacity while ensuring efficient use of stored water and maintaining the infrastructure for long-term durability. Following the briefing, the Union Minister and party inspected the operation processes at the power plant and assessed the progress of maintenance works.

Subsequently, they proceeded to the Paunglaung Dam, where officials provided updates on ongoing projects. During the inspection, the Union Minister received reports on the installation of a Hydraulic Elevator Dam (HED) aimed at increasing water storage capacity by 21,000 acre-feet.

This installation, spanning 140.5 meters in length and 1.5 meters in height, is projected to elevate annual power generation from 911 million to 919 million units upon completion. The HED installation commenced in the 2023-24 fiscal year and is scheduled for completion in the 2024-25 fiscal year.

The Union Minister also examined the inflow of water, storage conditions, the water intake building, and the installation progress of the Sluice Gate. Additionally, he assessed the durability of the dam, providing necessary instructions to ensure its integrity and functionality.
