Verkor, the new French manufacturer of batteries for electric vehicles, is opening its first 'gigafactory' in Bourbourg in northern France, the third in the French battery valley.  The factory covers 100,000 square metres and it has the capacity to produce 16 gigawatts per hour. For now, the capacity to generate is 8 gigawatts per hour, and it will be gradually increased.

Eight gigawatt hours is equivalent to producing 100,000 cars like the Alpine A390. Officials said this investment made here by Verkor in partnership with local authorities, is an absolutely strategic investment that is necessary to move towards the electrification of the automobile.
