A landslide has killed at least eight people and left more than 80 missing on Indonesia's main island of Java on Saturday. Triggered by heavy rainfall, it struck villages in Java's West Bandung region in the early hours and buried residential areas.

The head of West Java's disaster management office, said families living near the affected area had been evacuated due to fears of further landslides. He added that "unstable soil and heavy rain continue to complicate search and rescue operations". It is learnt that rescue efforts are under way while 24 people were able to escape the disaster.
