

Polling stations opened on Sunday in Egypt for the country's presidential election. Four candidates were contending in the election, but there was little doubt that the incumbent Abdel Fattah al-Sisi would secure a third term.

Inflation has hovered near 40 percent after the currency lost half its value and drove up the cost of imports that the economy is the main point of Egyptians' concerns. Voting will take place from Sunday until Tuesday with the official results announced on December 18.
