Egypt president calls for measures to slow birthrate

The population counter at the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) in Cairo revealed that Egypt's population has surpassed 105 million residents.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called for measures to slow the birthrate in the Arab world's most populous country, stating that having children is "not a matter of complete freedom".

Sisi made his remarks on Tuesday during the first Global Congress on Population, Health and Development, which is being hosted in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital from 5-8 September.
