Efforts for tourism development: Tourism Workigng Committee holds meeting (1/2023)

The Tourism Working Committee meeting (1/2023) led by Chairman of Tourism Working Committee Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Aung Thaw was held at the Ministry on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by Ministers who are operating tourism industry in Nay Pyi Taw Council, regions and states, committee members, representatives from private travel associations and officials through hybrid system.

At the meeting, the Union Minister said that  the inbound and outbound tourism of Myanmar could be resumed with the Public-private-people partnership like other countries in the world.

He said that measures are being undertaken by participating in workshops and world tourism exhibitions to be widely known the resumption of tourism industry to the international tourism community including ASEAN and the Greater Mekong sub-region countries.

For inbound tourism, tourists from neighboring countries have been designated as priority markets and the "Welcome Russia" program in Myanmar is being implemented to promote the Russian tourism market which has good potentials.In 2022, the number of tourists increased by 78% and it has been found that there has been an increase of 254% from January to February 2023 in compared to the same period of the previous year.

The Union Minister stressed the needs on implementing “domestic tourism campaigns" with special prices through Public-private-people partnership for the development of domestic tourism industry, One Village One Product programme in connection with tourism industry, skilled workers on hotels and tourism industry and participation in development of tourism industry of Myanmar in line with the norms of ASEAN and international organizations.

Later, Secretary of Tourism Working Committee Director General of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism reported completion of works on the decision of Tourism Work Commitee Meeting (2/2021), progress of works, guest list management system and tourism sureys.

Member of the Work Committee discussed works done, being done and to be done and measures for development of hotel and tourism sectors and experts and representatives of private travel associations reported secotor-wise implementations.

In the evening, the Union Minister met officials of hotels and travel associations in Nay Pyi Taw and  concerned officials. At the meeting, the Union Minister called for implementing plans to make Nay Pyi Taw as a good destination, better services, promoting advertisement for more arrival of foreign tourists and striving for development of tourism industry.

Attendees then presented the requirements on which the Union Minister supplemented on the reports.
