Efforts For PWDs: VP Addresses National Committee Meeting

Chairman of the National Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Vice President U Henry Van Thio addressed the Committee’s 4th meeting on Tuesday.

In the meeting at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, the Vice President stressed that persons with disabilities (PWDs) have a harder time accessing education and finding employment and face higher rates of poverty. Myanmar’s legislature passed the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Law in 2015 and the bylaws on 27 December 2017.

Sub committees were also formed. He also highlighted sexual violence against people with disabilities and legal actions. He stressed efforts for the persons with disabilities. Vice Chairman of the Committee Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye reported on tasks undertaken by the National Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Acting Vice Chairman 2, Secretary and members of the Committee also reported on works completed, plans, challenges, campaigns and many other matters for the states and regions. The Vice President called for building access for persons with disabilities and cooperation on the discussions and suggestions made in the meeting.
