13 June 2019

The Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) Secretariat held an informal meeting in Yangon on Thursday.

The 2-day meeting aims to seek ways for holding the Union Peace Conference - 21st Century Panglong and to find out the facts that hinder to hold the peace meeting.

The previous Myanmar government and 8 ethnic armed organizations signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement in October 2015. In 2018, the number of signatories expanded to 10 as the New Mon State Party and Lahu Democratic Union signed the NCA.

EAOs Representative U Sai Ngin also stressed for importance of all inclusiveness for achieving eternal peace.

Representative, Ethnic Armed Organizations Group, Sai Ngin said “Each Government tenure has time limit for implementing the peace process. In order to achieve the basic principles for federal and democracy before 2020, we have been cooperating with the Government in its effort. We support the efforts of the Government and Hluttaw for participation of non-Signatory EAOs in the peace process. The eternal peace can be achieved with the participation of all inclusiveness.”

The meetings for Union Peace Conference - 21st Century Panglong have been held for three times. It was planned to hold the meeting once in later 2018 and early this year. But the target failed to meet, and only the informal meetings can be held during these period.
