






The Department of Public Health (Yangon) and the Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (Yangon) launched the 2023 World Breastfeeding Day and Nutrition Promotion Week activities at the Yangon Region Government office on Tuesday.
The ceremony was held with the attendance of the Patron of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (Yangon) and Regional Chief Minister’s wife, Ministers, concerned officials and invited guests. In the opening remark of the Yangon Region Social Affairs Minister U Aung Win Thein said that the Maternal and Child Welfare Association (Yangon) has been working on health, social, economic and education sectors for the development of socio-economic life of mothers and children.
The activities include breastfeeding week, nutrition promotion week for children under 5, nutrition promotion week for pregnant and lactating mothers and elimination of Iodine deficiency diseases week. He added that breastfeeding can obviously reduce the rate of child death and urged all mothers to feed breast milk to their infants till the age of 6 months.
Then, the Deputy Director General of the Department of Public Health and Medical Service clarified the activities of World Breastfeeding and Nutrition Promotion Weeks. And, the Patron of the Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (Yangon) together with the official concerned and invited guests viewed around the displayed booths.
The ceremony was concluded by providing nutritious foods to the pregnant and lactating mothers and giving Vitamin A pills and gifts to children under 5.
