




Construction of a temporary Bailey Bridge on Myawady-Kawkareik Asian Highway commenced on 10th August.
On the 7th of August, a road section on the Asian Highway near Tawnaw Waterfall in Myawady Township has collapsed due to torrential rain, resulting the temporary suspension of transportation.
On the 9th of August, the officials from the road departments led by the Kayin State Minister for Security and Border Affairs conducted survey at the collapsed-area to be able to carry out the repairing processes.
The Minister instructed to construct 200 feet long temporary Bailey bridge. During the construction of Bailey Bridge, 300 feet approach roads will be constructed on both sides of the highway road for convenient commuting.
During the repairing works, the drivers of small vehicles can be able to use Myawady-Kawkareik road which is being used previously.
According to the official from the Department of Bridge (Kayin State) under the Ministry of Construction, the drain pipe of bridge will be constructed at the affected-area starting from opening season after calculation the force of water inflow volume.
Myawady-Kawkareik Asian Highway is one of the major roads for transportation between Myanmar and Thailand. Through this Highway, foodstuff, construction equipment, oil and related products, fruits and other items are exported from Thailand to Myanmar.
