Gathering all the members, oil millers and partner organizations, Myanmar Edible Oil Millers Association hold the 4th annual meeting which took place at UMFCCI in Yangon on 20th August along with the presence of Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than.

Under the third point of SAC’s main economic objectives which is addressing the importance of oil crops cultivation, local oil sufficiency and potential exports, Myanmar Edible Oil Millers Association is adding speedy momentum and putting continuous efforts into well operating of oil mills covering the needs of consumers and country’s development.

Chairman, Myanmar Edible Oil Millers Association, Khin Soe said "During around the years of 2000 and 2020, the growth of oil millers significantly decreased. But now, the head of state surely addressed the oil mill sector in the economic objectives focusing on the increase cultivation of oil crops and the local oil sufficiency. So, agriculture is a key and we need to get raw materials for the mills to operate 24/7 and of course we need working capital for that also. And the finished products are required to be operational. We need market control and quality control. To be beneficial for the related industries, our oil millers need to operate with full capacity in time."

The officials added that the agricultural, and livestock industrial sectors equally play crucial role for the country’s development and by implementing this, the importance of producing enough raw materials and the refining processes become a key part of them.

Chairwoman, Myanmar Food Laboratory Network, Dr. Khin Chit said "I’d like to urge oil millers to connect with Myanmar Food Laboratory Network to be able to test their product prior to getting FDA approval and distributing to the public. We are ready to guide them. Also as I mentioned earlier, in our country, blended oil is acceptable. By doing research, oil can be blended with different combinations maintaining the nutritional value for the consumers. And it’d be great if we can refine sunflower oil enough in our country as it contains less saturated fat. So, we all need to control the quality for the consumer safety systematically."

Myanmar Edible Oil Millers Association was founded in 2016 and fulfilling the objectives to achieve the four main outputs; consumer, livestock, job opportunity and trade flow focusing on GAP that are needed for the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in cooperation with government and private sectors.
